WAICA Re pledges to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, aligning our operations and investments with the global imperative to combat climate change.
We commit to rigorous carbon footprint reduction, innovative climate-resilient solutions, and responsible investment practices. By integrating sustainability into our core, we aim to lead by example in the reinsurance industry, fostering a healthier planet and resilient communities.
LONG-TERM COMMITMENT
2050
Net Zero
Achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across our pathway to a lower-carbon future.
NEAR-TERM TARGET
2033
55% Reduction
Reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 55% from the 2023 baseline.
SCIENCE-ALIGNED
1.5°C
Climate Pathway
Align our emissions reduction pathway with a science-based 1.5°C trajectory.
01
Our Net Zero Approach
Reducing our operational footprint
We are focused on reducing emissions from the energy and activities associated with our operations. This includes improving energy efficiency, increasing the use of renewable energy, digitalising processes and reducing unnecessary travel and resource consumption.
Influencing the wider value chain
As a reinsurance and financial services organisation, our influence extends beyond our direct operations. We consider sustainability in investment decisions, underwriting and engagement with clients and partners to support a more resilient and lower-carbon economy.
02
Science-Based Targets
WAICA Re has aligned its carbon reduction targets with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), using a 2023 emissions baseline and a pathway consistent with the ambition of the Paris Agreement. The near-term pathway targets a 55% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2033, with a long-term ambition of net zero by 2050.

03
Measuring Progress
Scope 1134tCO₂e — 2023 baseline
Scope 255tCO₂e — 2023 baseline
Scope 1 + 2190tCO₂e — combined baseline
Progress is tracked against the baseline through carbon-reduction key performance indicators. This provides a measurable framework for monitoring performance and informing future climate action.
04
